Tech billionaire Bryan Johnson is on social media promoting his health hacks, as he attempts to live longer and be healthier than other humans.
One thing Bryan has proved is poor posture can affect anyone.
The discovery came while Bryan was having an MRI scan, his team saw his poor posture was obstructing the blood flow to the brain. Worst case scenario Bryan ran the risk of having a stroke or a seizure. Bryan tweeted “he was killing his brain, with his bad posture”.
This is at the most dramatic end of the scale. Poor posture can be a subtle cause of a host of health conditions, that are very rarely attributed to poor posture. A bad back or back pain are the most obvious that is attributed to poor posture. But what about IBS and digestive orders, high blood pressure and fertility, these issues can be exacerbated, as can anxiety and brain fog can also be cause by restrictions on the respiratory system and blood circulation.
Bad posture is overlooked as a cause or contributing factor as these habits are normalised. I like the analogy of “a pot of water which is filled drop by drop”, to the problems from bad or poor posture, accumulate over time. It rarely presents pain straight away, creeping in slowly, sometime as a result of an injury, which is why the symptoms are not considered or addressed until they impact our life significantly.
Another contributing reason this is overlooked is our disconnection from our bodies. I see this in my Yoga classes and when I give talks. I ask participants to stand with their feet straight, more often than not everyone will be out of alignment to some degree and be unaware of it, until it is pointed out to them.
Most of us now sit for our job and most of us have a computer or a device that we use at home. For this reason, we should all be thinking about our posture is it serving us or hurting us.
Good news is that Bryan Johnson is correcting his issue through exercising muscles to correct the issue in his neck. You can too. Information is available by visiting his website or YouTube channel.
